Should criminal penalties for false accusations be increased, in light of the Duke case?
One of the most disturbing epidemics in existence in society at present is the exponential increase of false accusations. Along with this is the fact that false allegations have been used to convict innocent males for crimes they did not commit, even when there is evidence that the accusation made was indeed false. The law system is no longer using solid evidence to determine whether a defendant is innocent or guilty of the crime they are accused of committing. Instead, the system is relying almost solely on the accusation that was made. Most accusations tend to be made by females. The prosecution no longer obtains evidence to support the legitimacy of an accusation; instead, they proceed to trial based on the "word" of the accuser.
