Why do Mormons believe in more than one god?

uming Mormons abide by the commandment stating that there shall be no other gods besides the God of Israel, then why do Mormons believe that a the Judeo Christian God was created by an even higher god? Wait, let me guess, Joseph Smith's words trump all biblical precedence, sorry I asked.
