SR 22, help im confused?
An SR 22 Insurance certificate is basically proof that the person can and will be able to be financially responsible in the event of an incident were a person was liable for that incident (like an automobile accident). Since your boyfriend is trying to get his drivers license reinstated, the SR 22 (and all the other stuff like fees and proof of completion of drug cl) would enable the issuing agency (the DMV) to be able to issue the license, as long as all the requirements are met. The SR 22 is normally issued by an licensed insurance company that is required by law to notify the agency (the DMV) if and when the insurance policy lapses or is cancelled in any manner. Then the agency (the DMV) can suspend the driving privilege because the person can no longer prove that he will be able to respond to any damages resulting from any liable action. So, the insurance must be in your boyfriend's name and the date when the policy came into effect does not have to be the same as the conviction date. The SR 22 should be made effective when he reapplies for his drivers license. A person can get an SR 22 even when they don't have a license or a car, it's called an Operator's Insurance Policy.
