My work are being arsey with me....is it legal what they're doing?

Take everything you have written here to the HR department, ask to speak to someone confidentially and show them your letter and speak to them about the way you have been treated. Tell them you want something done about it. If they won't help go to CAB and and explain the situation they will give you advice on what steps to take to get your treatment investigated.
